Queer Ecologies brings together twelve artists from within and beyond the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology. United by a common goal, they search for alternatives to the idea that humans stand at the top of nature’s hierarchy, and therefore have the right to exploit natural resources, destroy ecosystems, and dominate other species. Queer ecology rejects this worldview as a patriarchal, heteronormative construct. Alternatives arise from communities pushed to the margins — physically and conceptually — who resist hierarchies, market rules, land and resource claims, and the exercise of power over non-human life.
Queer ecologies act as spaces that subvert and simultaneously heal the world’s broken systems—other environments that re-code habitual perspectives, open possibilities for emancipation, and expand the limits of imagination. They propose new scenarios for the present and the future, not only for queer people but for all. This multidisciplinary exhibition offers diverse forms of critique against current structures and multiple pathways toward reimagining the dominant human–nature relationship. The participating artists present works across photography, traditional painting, video, performance, installation, and more.
